Hundreds of shoe lovers flock to Costa Mesa

Shoe addicts know this.
They have too many pairs of shoes and not enough special occasions to wear them.
“You can’t wear those sparkly shoes to work or those stilettos chasing your kids,” said Melissa O’Shea, 37, pictured right.
OShea started the Hello Stiletto Shoe Club in 2004 to fix that.
"The shoe lover owns 170 pairs including the peep-toe pumps pictured right that are half a size too"small for her feet.
I mostly keep them on a shelf in my shoe room,"she said."”If I cant wear them, then at least I can look at them!
O’Shea’s club has grown to"more than 4,000 members — including about 700 from Orange County. It "hosts events" that give women "a chance to" slip on those "fantastic Manolo Blahniks" or Jimmy Choos that they never or rarely get to show off.
On Friday (6/20) from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., O’Shea will host a shoe party at Metro Pointe at "South Coast" DSW store that opened earlier this year.
About 740 "club members" have registered for the event, but O’Shea expects the turnout to be more like 300. About 350 people attended the event, O’Shea said.
At the event, 225 brown leather handbags that DSW sells will be given away for free.
The event will be catered by Irezumi Sushi, which also recently opened at Metro Pointe. Sapporo will provide beer.
To get in on the free handbags (which go to the first 225 people who show up to the event) "and beer, you must be a member and" RSVP "to the event on" Hello Stiletto "Web site. (It’s free to register and you" can also sign up at "DSW tomorrow.)"
Ten gift cards worth $5, 10 worth $10 and "one worth $100 will also be raffled off."
Because it’s a large event, O’Shea, who lives near Boston, will fly in for the Costa Mesa event.
O’Shea launched the LA-area chapter, which includes Orange County, last December. Before that, the most western state with a chapter was Chicago.
“I knew I had to start something in L.A. My gosh, it’s such a fashion capital.”
Because O.C.’s got a large number of members, O’Shea expects to split O.C. into its own "chapter.
Also on July 30 starting at 7 p.m., Hello Stiletto will also host a girl’s night out at Blanca restaurant in Newport Beach. Come in your swankiest shoes as prizes will be given to" the best looking ones."
