Downtown Diva: Girls night out takes several forms - always fun

The Downtown Diva is happy to report that she's never had a shortage of girls-gone-wild moments - and no, I'm don't mean the scandalous videos advertised on late night TV. I mean gal pals out and about on the town, sparkling and making a splash.

More and more though, I've noticed that groups of girlies are adopting themes when they show up on the social swirl. A few years ago, some of my more adventuresome girlfriends and I created Wigs and Wonderbras nights - a pretty self-explanatory concept. We'd don wigs in all the colors of a neon rainbow, along with highly supportive foundation garments, and boldly sashay into art openings and other events.

The idea of getting dressed up in fun ensembles and going out with the girls isn't limited to the younger generation - after all, who isn't inspired by the famous Red Hat Ladies with their bright purple feather boas and fabulous red chapeaus?

And in Naples, there's a chapter of the national club Hello Stiletto - a group of fun women of all ages who adore shoes and love showing them off while convening at various hot spots for cocktails (for more info on the next event, go to shoeclub.us/).

My buddy Pam Beckman, an event planner and the owner of Bon Soiree, is the latest fun-loving female to come up with an awesome concept for girls' nights with her Little Black Dress Club. Pam says that she and some pals thought of it when they discovered that the Sandy Butler rewards anyone in a black dress with a free glass of wine and an appetizer on the first Thursday of ever month. These days, Pam and friends are having a blast all over town in their chic, sexy, classic frocks.

On the other end of the fashion spectrum, at a recent gathering at a friend's house, we all arrived in roomy tropical muumuus.

While none of us looked terribly glamorous, I can report that it was certainly one of our comfiest girls' nights ever.

CATTLE BARON'S PREVIEW

On Jan. 24 the dress code for girls - and guys - will be the same at the sixth annual Cattle Baron's Ball at the A.C.I. hangar at the Page Field Airport, as everybody dons their finest Western wear for the occasion.

Last Wednesday, committee members thanked major sponsors with a cocktail reception at the beautiful waterfront penthouse of Dr. William Harwin. Charming Harlan Parrish was there, as was lovely Stacey Trippe.

I got to meet Claudia Cowart, and it was fun chatting with Jessica Barton of Spiro and Associates.

ACTING UP AT SAKS

Thanking sponsors of charity events seems to be de rigueur these days, as Abuse Counseling & Treatment, Inc. and Saks Fifth Avenue threw a wonderful wine tasting on Thursday for sponsors, artists and VIPs associated with the Arts for Act fine art auction coming up on Aug. 16. There were lots of fab guests including Betsy Bernstein, Jessie Dilich, Gordon Warren, Darryl Pottorf, Doug Heslep and John and Dewey Bechdel.

PARTYING FOR A CAUSE

Tomorrow, starting at 4 p.m., the Hide-A-Way Sports Bar downtown on Dean Street will host a concert with the band Both Hands and a barbeque block party.

Partying for a good cause means that all funds raised from the event will go to the family of slain Fort Myers Police Officer Andrew Widman. There's even a raffle to win a pair of season tickets to the Red Sox spring training.

I'll be there with bells on!

- Ciao for now, my lovelies! Do e-mail gossip, love notes, and tips on what's happening downtown and beyond....
